A Bit About Dusty:

Father of two sons and the grandfather of five—ranging from high school freshman to senior in college—Dusty served with the Navy in Japan and at Cape Canaveral, and worked in sales and sales management. After leaving the Navy, Dusty managed a sales force with Xerox, served as a National Sales Manager for ROLM, and was vice-president at two telecom start-ups.  As an entrepreneur, he was a partner in both a management consulting firm as well as a technical recruiting firm, serving companies such as Aetna Insurance, Accenture, AT&T, Hewlett-Packard, Lucent Technologies, MCI, and Northern Telecom among others.

Dusty has always been active in working with youth—as a coach and league official in AYSO soccer; youth minister; and a volunteer tutor in schools.  As he wound down his business career, he pursued a teaching credential and taught in both the Ravenswood and Oakland school districts. He served as a volunteer at College Track in East Palo Alto.

His current practice as Mentor/Academic Coach, working one-on-one with students, has been most rewarding.  In addition to his own coaching, he was involved with the Dragon Success mentoring program at Bishop O’Dowd for five years.  He developed the study skills curriculum and coordinated all aspects of the program that helped 9th-graders with learning disabilities or who were underprepared for the transition to the high school environment.

He attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois until he received a congressional appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD,  from which he graduated with a B.S. in Engineering.  While working in the business world, he obtained an MBA with an emphasis in Organizational Development from the University of Detroit.  He participated in the CalStateTEACH credential program.

Dusty has lived in the Bay Area for 30 years, in Oakland for the past nine years. He is married to Carolyn Edwards, an Educational Therapist in private practice.
